Though modifications to the chassis have led to the powerful, and heavier [[Argus XT]], the original remains valuable for its ballistic capacity. Able to carry an effective mix of weaponry, the Argus is nonetheless seldom encountered in combat. Along with the [[Ares]] and [[Dragon]], it has an exceptional turn rate and can be an effective brawler versus larger, slower opponents. It is well armored, carries impressive ballistic capability in its right arm, and decent energy capacity in the torso. Though it's speed limits it's effectiveness as an insurgency unit, it is well suited to defend rear areas, or provide sniper support. Armed with Gauss rifles and high powered lasers, it can be particularly adept at pop-out attacks, using its natural chassis performance to run out, fire, and quickly retire again.<ref>[http://trm.mektek.net/index_mechs.htm MechWarrior4 - Technical Reference Manual]</ref>

The Argus supports no equipment other than Light Amplification, and this only in the Mercenaries version. This poor equipment capability, coupled with its low top speed make it easy prey for missiles. It's turn rate can make it a good brawler, but only in expert hands as its torso twist range is quite limited. The right arm should be a priority target as all ballistic weapons are carried there, and these usually make up a large part of its weapons load. Its left arm mounted missile rack seems particularly vulnerable, but its torso mounted energy slots are well protected.<ref>[http://trm.mektek.net/index_mechs.htm MechWarrior4 - Technical Reference Manual]</ref>
