Strength and power define the Thanatos... capable of carrying heavy weaponry, it can hit hard at all ranges. It's a good unit to send in and bust up enemy concentrations, a talent made possible by its [[Jump Jets]] and torso twist capability. A Ballistic heavy chassis, it can tear up smaller mechs lacking sufficient armor protection. Its 360ΒΊ torso twist range makes for an extremely capable dogfighter, and many mechs have tried to approach from behind, only to get a face full of its heavy weaponry. [[ECM]] and the [[IFF Jammer]] help to round out a very capable, and very stealthy mech.<ref>[http://trm.mektek.net/index_mechs.htm MechWarrior4 - Technical Reference Manual]</ref>

With some of the worst agility factors of any heavy chassis, the Thanatos performs more like a 90 ton assault mech and is at a disadvantage when facing faster, more agile mechs such as the [[Thor]], or when forced into close quarter combat typical of urban environments. Its lack of Omni slots limits its capability greatly, and as most of the weaponry is arm mounted, it becomes relatively weak with their loss. Avoid the thin center torso and target the left arm first, where most of its direct fire weapons are located.<ref>[http://trm.mektek.net/index_mechs.htm MechWarrior4 - Technical Reference Manual]</ref>
